Guatemala Time Zone Quick Reference

A change made on the other side. For about a quarter of a century the crossing into Mexico cost an hour for part of the year. Mexico observed seasonal changes from the mid-nineties, so the Mexican side rose an hour each spring while Guatemala stayed put, and the two diverged from April to October. That ended in 2022, when Mexico abolished the practice nationally and set its clocks back for the last time. Both sides have read the same figure in every week of the year since, and Guatemala changed nothing to bring it about. Why Guatemala Keeps No Daylight Saving Time

Little daylight to gain. At around fifteen degrees north the difference between the longest and shortest day is modest, so a spring shift buys an evening hour the tropics largely supply already. Guatemala has run brief trials in the past, the most recent about two decades ago and introduced by decree during an electricity shortage, and none was repeated. Nothing in the present arrangement produces a switch, and none of the neighbouring countries switches either - so no land border here moves an hour at any point in the year.
